Ahhh... Posting on-line at one AM. This takes me back...
Well, the main news to report is that Jessica survived meeting my family. Actually, they were a lot better behaved then I thought they would be. Sure, when we were at my sister's play all the aunts had their cameras out and were making like the paparazzi, but Jessica was spared the full force of their attention. All eyes were on my sister, who played the lead in Cinderella. My sister's a badass, by the way. The play wasn't that good- most of the characters were annoying, but my sis had a great solo number.
Once we got home we finished with the introductions, although a lot of them had taken place before the show started. We had arrived a bit early and thought we might get a bite to eat before the show. But as we were going my family started to arrive.
Wave after wave of my family.
I kept on seeing people that I thought I recognized and then realized I was related to them. A lot of them already knew my two other friends that made the trip, but this was their first time meeting Jessica. Of course, now I've talked with her so I know how nerve racking it was for her, but she didn't show it at all. She dealt really well with the machine gun introductions that occured.
Of course, I didn't expect any of these people to actually register with Jess. (except for maybe my Aunt Jessica) Hell, I'm related to them and I don't even remember all of their names. (Of course, I also have a legendary bad memory. )
After the play we went back to my mother's house to have a BBQ. Of course, while giving her the 10 cent tour, I had to show Jessica the Walls of pictures. See, my mother, in addition to being in love with picture taking, also loves displaying them. So, each of my three siblings and I have our own wall with various pictures and newspaper clippings. It's quite ridiculous, but I figured I'd get the worst out of the way.
After the tour I quickly realized that my friends would be uncomfortable anywhere near the main body politic that is the Green family. So I sequestered us in the computer room where we played drinking Uno with the only cousin of my age who was there as well as her boyfriend. After food one of my younger cousins decided to use me as a jungle gym/totem pole, followed by giving me a severe pillow beating when I finally threw him off. Ahhh, family.
Amazingly enough, even with all the cousins there, there wasn't a huge photo session in the backyard. My friends were spared the worst fate in dealing with the Green family. Parhaps my family has finally gotten so big, they've despaired of capturing everyone on film at once. One can only hope.
Well, I'm sure there is a ton more I should say, but it is late and there is that physics homework that's due tomorrow that I haven't quite finished... 'night all. |
